Case Study

Case Study 1: Nut Processer

Challenge:

Our client is a well known and well positioned importer and packager of nuts and confectionery products. There challenge was to come up with a new low cost and efficient thermoformed package for retail. We wanted to move them from the current tubs and lids that they were using into a more modern design. Our specific areas of improvement were to reduce over-all product weight within the package without diminishing the size of goods to the consumer. We wanted to be able to pack more finished product into cartons and onto pallets which would reduce the over-all cost of the package.

Solution:

We designed a new  tray and tub. We made it rectangular so that it made for efficient use of space in the shipping carton. We were able to pack the product lower and yet appear to have more product packed in the thermoformed container. The lid was nice large rectangular space which gave more room for label graphics. The lower tray allowed us to reduce the thickness of the rectangular tub wall as it would not buckle.

Result:

Our client was able to interest more retailers in converting to their products. They lowered over-all costs to retail. They became more competitive with a new more modern design. The retailer sold more product.

Case Study 2: Knife Manufacturer

Challenge:

Our client is a well known and well positioned manufacturer of sport, hunting and military knives. They were introducing a new line of product and were not sure of the projected sales  for each style of knife. They were looking for a way to be able to show the consumer the knives features but keeping the knife safe and secure in the retailer’s location. They also wanted to keep start up costs low.

Solution:

We designed a new tray for each style of knife which would be machined as an insert into a master mould. The inserts reduced the overall cost of the first mould and allowed them to produce the required trays for each style by mixing and matching the inserts as sales dictated.

Result:

No further mould work was required for future sales. The speed at which the inserts could be changed makes delivery fast. Also, they did not have to maintain a large standing inventory to meet knife sales demand for each type and lowered the overall ongoing packaging costs.
